• We live in a fast pacing world, were we need to juggle multiple things at once. There can be several reason for missing some ones 'Hi' in a IM.

• By just writing a salutation and waiting for an answer you will waste both your and receivers time. Instead of just saying 'Hi', 'Hello', 'Good Morning', etc, also add your query.

• For example:

  Hi, how did the project meeting go yesterday?
  

• Here are couple of example of status you have in your preferred IM platform:

  • Please don't just say hello. Chats are asynchronous — nohello.net
  • Don't just stop at hello, go ahead and tell me what you want to chat about! -- nohello.net
